NC AI to Lead Development of World Model for National Defense Physical AI
A significant national research and development project in the realm of Physical Artificial Intelligence has been awarded to a consortium led by NC AI, in partnership with Hyundai Rotem. This initiative, commissioned by the Agency for Defense Development (ADD), focuses on establishing an integrated simulator and a modular robot system that leverages advanced Physical AI capabilities. The project represents a major governmental push to enhance defense technologies through intelligent automation and simulation.
NC AI's primary role in this ambitious undertaking will be to lead the comprehensive development of a "world model." This technology is deemed crucial for the realization of next-generation robot foundation models (RFMs), which are essential for enabling robots to understand and interact with their environments more effectively. The project's scope includes integrating the control mechanisms for multiple types of unmanned robots, allowing for more coordinated and autonomous operations.
Furthermore, the consortium will be responsible for constructing a digital twin-based simulator, which will provide a virtual environment for testing and refining these advanced robotic systems before real-world deployment. This approach is designed to mitigate issues where virtual prototypes might malfunction in physical settings. NC AI previously showcased a world foundation model (WFM) technology in March that demonstrated comparable performance to leading global models while utilizing significantly fewer GPU resources, highlighting their expertise in this critical area. This project is expected to accelerate the transformation of defense AI capabilities.
