Nokia and Google Cloud Partner to Embed AI Agents in Autonomous Network Product Suite
Nokia and Google Cloud have announced a significant expansion of their partnership, focusing on the integration of Google's advanced Gemini AI models into Nokia's network software suite, specifically the Nokia Assurance Center. This strategic collaboration is set to revolutionize how telecommunication providers manage and operate their networks by introducing a suite of specialized AI agents.
The core of this initiative involves the development of six distinct AI agents, powered by Google's multimodal Gemini models. These agents are engineered to perform various operational tasks, either independently or in concert, to address complex network challenges. The primary objectives are to lower operational expenses, dramatically speed up the resolution of network issues, and pave the way for fully automated, self-driving network operations.
Among the specialized agents being introduced are the Router agent, which acts as a central orchestration layer; the Event Triage agent, designed to analyze alarms and identify root causes; the KPI Selector agent, providing expert interpretation of network performance metrics; the Anomaly Reasoner agent, which distinguishes genuine issues from false alarms; the Action Reasoner agent, recommending specific remediation steps; and the Dashboard agent, enabling natural language-driven visual analytics.
Nokia developed these capabilities using Google Cloud's Agent Development Kit (ADK) on the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform. This framework allowed for the rapid creation of intelligent conversational and routing paths that leverage Gemini's multimodal reasoning. The entire multi-agent framework is designed to run seamlessly on standard Google Cloud compute and storage, avoiding the need for complex managed services.
The partnership emphasizes a "glass box autonomy" approach, where AI assists human engineers rather than replacing them entirely. The system provides confidence-based recommendations, ensuring that critical decisions remain under human control. However, for approved low-risk scenarios, the platform is capable of enabling fully automated responses.
The initial Router and Event Triage agents are already functional. The platform is slated for an official launch as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model on the Google Cloud Marketplace in September 2026. At this point, operators will be able to deploy a starter pack of certified agents to work with the Nokia Assurance Center. Nokia plans to deliver the remaining, more complex agents through continuous software updates throughout late 2026 and into 2027, expanding capabilities across its broader network portfolio, including Unified Inventory, Data Suite, and Orchestration applications. This phased rollout allows telecommunication companies to gradually validate the reasoning of individual agents, maintaining human oversight over critical control points before fixes are executed. Live demonstrations of these autonomous network agents are scheduled for DTW Ignite in Copenhagen from June 23-25.
