Nokia and Google Cloud Integrate Gemini AI for Autonomous Network Automation

Nokia and Google Cloud have announced a significant expansion of their partnership, focusing on the integration of Google's advanced Gemini AI models into Nokia's network software suite, specifically the Nokia Assurance Center. This strategic collaboration is poised to transform how telecommunication networks are managed, ushering in an era of more automated and efficient operations. The core of this initiative involves the development of six specialized AI agents, powered by Google's Gemini models. These agents are designed to handle a variety of operational tasks within telecom networks, aiming to dramatically accelerate network automation and improve issue resolution for service providers. By leveraging these AI capabilities, telecom companies can expect to lower operational costs and resolve network issues more rapidly, moving closer to fully automated, self-driving network environments. Modern networks generate increasingly complex and voluminous data, often leading to bottlenecks and reliance on manual troubleshooting, which can result in costly downtime. The newly introduced AI agents address these challenges by instantly processing raw data, enabling telecom providers to differentiate critical infrastructure problems from routine fluctuations. This capability is expected to significantly speed up repairs and protect revenue. Nokia developed these AI agents using Google Cloud's Agent Development Kit (ADK) on the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform. This framework facilitates the creation of smart conversational and routing paths that utilize Gemini's multimodal reasoning. Crucially, the entire multi-agent framework operates seamlessly on standard Google Cloud compute and storage, including Kubernetes and Google Cloud Storage, thus avoiding the need for complex managed services or expensive custom software overlays. The partnership emphasizes a concept Nokia calls "glass box autonomy," where human engineers retain final approval for critical actions, while low-risk scenarios can be fully automated. The platform is slated for an official launch as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model on the Google Cloud Marketplace in September 2026. Initial certified agents, such as the Router agent and Event Triage agent, are already functional, with more complex agents to be delivered through continuous software updates throughout late 2026 and 2027, expanding capabilities across Nokia's broader network portfolio. Live demonstrations of these autonomous network agents are being showcased at DTW Ignite in Copenhagen from June 23-25.
