Red Hat Enhances Ansible Automation Platform with AI Integration for Agentic IT Operations

Red Hat has announced major innovations to its Ansible Automation Platform, specifically designed to empower IT operations in what they term the “agentic era” of artificial intelligence. The core of these enhancements lies in establishing Ansible Automation Platform as a secure and governed execution layer for AI agents, allowing enterprises to harness AI's potential for automation without compromising control or stability. The upcoming Ansible Automation Platform 2.7 is central to this strategy, aiming to operationalize AI agents at an enterprise scale. A significant development is the general availability of the Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for Ansible. This protocol acts as a bridge, enabling any AI tool to seamlessly access and interact with the Ansible platform. This means AI agents can now propose and initiate automation tasks, with their actions funneled through pre-defined, human-approved, and deterministic Ansible playbooks. This approach is critical for ensuring that AI-driven automation remains predictable and adheres to organizational policies, mitigating risks associated with autonomous AI actions.
