Microsoft Introduces Copilot Code Reviews for Azure Repos

Microsoft has launched a limited public preview of Copilot Code Reviews, bringing AI-powered assistance directly to pull requests within Azure Repos. This initiative is designed to support development teams that continue to rely on Azure Repos for their day-to-day operations, even as Microsoft advocates for a broader migration to GitHub to leverage its advanced AI and agentic development features. The new Copilot integration allows for an automated and intelligent code review process. When a pull request is ready, developers can request a Copilot review. The AI then analyzes the code, identifies potential issues, and provides suggestions and comments directly within the review interface. This capability aims to enhance code quality and accelerate the review cycle by offering immediate, actionable feedback. To participate in this technical preview, organizations must go through a sign-up process. Once access is granted, the feature needs to be enabled at the organizational level by an administrator. Following this, repository administrators can activate Copilot Code Review for specific repositories, and individual users can enable it within their preview features settings. This tiered activation ensures controlled rollout and allows Microsoft to gather valuable feedback and monitor usage metrics before a wider release. The introduction of Copilot Code Reviews for Azure Repos signifies Microsoft's ongoing strategy to embed AI across its developer ecosystem. While GitHub remains the preferred platform for cutting-edge AI development, this feature ensures that Azure Repos users also benefit from intelligent tooling, helping them manage complex projects and maintain high code standards. Each completed code review consumes tokens, which are converted into GitHub AI credits for billing purposes.
