AWS Combines Cloud Migration Factory and Bedrock AgentCore for AI-Orchestrated Server Migrations

AWS released an architectural blueprint for AI-driven orchestration of large-scale server and data center migrations. The solution combines AWS Cloud Migration Factory (CMF) for multi-wave execution with AWS Application Migration Service (AWS MGN) for zero-downtime, block-level server replication. At the center of the architecture is Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, which drives intelligent agents that autonomously monitor replication health, resolve migration task errors, execute pre-flight and cutover scripts, and coordinate stakeholder updates through Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations. Traditional enterprise data center migrations involving hundreds or thousands of physical and virtual servers suffer from severe operational friction. Cloud practitioners and systems engineers frequently spend extensive maintenance windows manually reconciling asset inventories, verifying OS compatibility, monitoring replication lag across siloed consoles, and debugging transient network or script failures. By embedding autonomous agents directly into the migration control plane, organizations can parallelize wave execution. When a migration job encounters an error or network timeout, the AI agent inspects log streams, diagnoses root causes, attempts self-healing remediation routines, and alerts human operators with actionable context only when policy thresholds require escalation. This architecture reflects the broader evolution of cloud migration tooling from static assessment spreadsheets and manual runbooks toward autonomous, agentic platforms. As enterprises tackle deeply entrenched legacy monoliths, VMware environments, and multi-tier architectures, cloud providers are integrating generative AI services—such as AWS Transform, Bedrock AgentCore, and Google Cloud Migration Center—into baseline operational workflows. Rather than relying on human engineers to manually coordinate complex task graphs across dozens of disparate management interfaces, modern cloud migration engines leverage declarative intents and agentic loops to manage multi-step migration lifecycles end-to-end. For platform engineers and migration architects, adopting agent-driven migration pipelines requires moving from manual checklist execution to building verifiable guardrails and policy frameworks. Teams should define unambiguous exit criteria, validation scripts, and automated rollback triggers before granting agents execution privileges over production workloads. Furthermore, security teams must configure least-privilege IAM roles and strict operational boundaries around Bedrock AgentCore agents to ensure automated cutover actions remain auditable and compliant. Organizations planning large-scale infrastructure migrations should pilot CMF-based agentic workflows to increase wave throughput and minimize human error during critical cutover windows.
