Google Launches Gemini Spark, a New Agentic AI Assistant

Google has officially launched Gemini Spark, its new agentic AI assistant, making it available to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the United States. This innovative tool, first showcased at Google I/O 2026, is designed to function as a "24/7 personal agent" that can autonomously perform tasks in the background using Google Cloud infrastructure, even if the user's computer or phone is powered down. Built upon Google's Gemini Flash 3.5 model and the Antigravity platform, Gemini Spark represents a significant evolution beyond conventional chatbot capabilities. Instead of merely answering queries, Spark is engineered to take proactive actions on behalf of users, such as booking flights or hotel rooms. This marks a strategic shift towards more autonomous and action-oriented AI, aiming to streamline workflows and enhance productivity. The initial rollout of Gemini Spark includes integrations with popular services like the design application Canva, restaurant reservation platform OpenTable, and grocery delivery service Instacart. Google has also indicated plans to expand these integrations in the near future, with brands such as Adobe, Uber, Spotify, and Booking.com listed as upcoming partners. Beyond external integrations, Spark is deeply integrated with Google's own suite of products. For instance, it can leverage data from Gmail and Google Calendar to perform tasks like building outreach lists for businesses or tracking price differences for wedding planning or home renovations. Future enhancements are expected to include the ability to interact with Spark via text or email, create custom sub-agents, and even operate a local browser. While the service is currently exclusive to Google AI Ultra subscribers, requiring a monthly fee of at least $100, it offers substantial benefits, including up to 20TB of cloud storage and access to the Antigravity development platform. This launch coincides with other major Gemini announcements, including a redesigned user interface, the introduction of Gemini Omni (a new creative video model that can combine images, audio, video, and text as input), and a dedicated macOS desktop application for Gemini. The introduction of Gemini Spark signifies Google's strategic shift towards more autonomous and action-oriented AI, aiming to streamline workflows and enhance productivity for its users.
