Samsung Electronics Brings ChatGPT and Codex to Employees

Samsung Electronics is undertaking a significant enterprise-wide artificial intelligence transformation by deploying OpenAI's ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex to its global employee base. This strategic move, announced on June 21, 2026, represents one of OpenAI's largest corporate engagements to date, extending AI capabilities to all Samsung employees in Korea and across its Device eXperience (DX) division worldwide. The integration of these advanced AI tools is designed to enhance productivity and problem-solving across a broad spectrum of Samsung's operations. Employees will utilize ChatGPT for knowledge-based tasks such as searching and analyzing information, drafting documents, developing ideas, and interpreting complex data. Codex, initially a tool for software development, will now empower both technical and non-technical teams to write, review, and debug code, as well as create internal tools, websites, and automated workflows. This deployment builds upon an existing collaboration between Samsung and OpenAI, which includes Samsung's role in supplying advanced memory semiconductors crucial for next-generation AI infrastructure. The partnership now expands beyond hardware to encompass a comprehensive workforce transformation, underscoring Samsung's vision of AI as a fundamental platform for innovation. ChatGPT Enterprise offers robust, enterprise-grade features, including enhanced data protection, user and access management, and stringent security controls. These capabilities ensure that Samsung employees can leverage advanced AI within the company's established security policies and governance frameworks, addressing previous concerns that led to a temporary ban on generative AI tools in 2023 following a data leak incident. OpenAI's General Manager for Korea, Harrison Kim, highlighted the historical significance of this deployment, noting that Samsung is embracing AI not merely as a departmental tool but as a core platform to revolutionize how employees globally work and innovate. The company aims to enable its workforce to move from ideas to execution faster, solve complex challenges, and accelerate the creation of new products and services. Furthermore, this initiative includes Samsung SDS, Samsung's IT services arm, becoming the first authorized reseller of ChatGPT Enterprise in Korea, establishing a new distribution channel for OpenAI in the Korean corporate market. The full global workforce is expected to complete AI training by the end of 2026, marking a pivotal shift in Samsung's operational paradigm.
