Zilliz Launches Vector Lakebase, Unifying Data Platform for AI

Zilliz, known for Milvus, the world's most widely adopted open-source vector database, has unveiled the public preview of Zilliz Vector Lakebase. This significant release for Zilliz Cloud extends the capabilities of its production vector database by integrating it into a unified data platform specifically designed for artificial intelligence workloads. The core innovation lies in combining real-time vector search with a shared, lake-native data foundation, which allows for a more streamlined and efficient approach to AI data management. Vector Lakebase introduces several key functionalities that enhance how organizations interact with their data for AI applications. It enables interactive discovery, facilitates large-scale batch analytics, and supports direct searching on external data lakes. This means that instead of managing disparate data systems for different AI tasks, customers can now leverage a single data foundation where all workloads run against a single logical copy of the data. This approach not only simplifies data governance but also optimizes operational costs, as on-demand and batch jobs are billed only when compute resources are actively used. The platform maintains the high-performance real-time vector search engine that powers over 10,000 enterprises and AI teams globally, including major players like Zillow and MiniMax. Building on this foundation, Vector Lakebase offers tiered real-time serving capabilities, tuned for different workload requirements. These tiers include Performance-Optimized for high QPS and single-digit-millisecond latency, Capacity-Optimized for balanced performance, and Tiered-Storage for cost-effective, large-scale data handling. All tiers are designed to deliver high recall rates and are backed by Zilliz Cloud's 99.99% uptime SLA and Global Cluster cross-region high availability. The introduction of Vector Lakebase addresses the increasing complexity of managing data for AI, particularly with the rise of multimodal data lakes. By extending the vector database with the openness, scalability, and economics of these data lakes, Zilliz aims to provide a fully managed platform that bridges the gap between high-throughput vector serving and comprehensive data analytics. This move positions Zilliz Cloud as a robust solution for enterprises and AI-native startups looking to build, deploy, and scale their AI applications effectively.
