Right-sizing recommendations with MCOA and Perses dashboards

Red Hat has unveiled a developer preview for enhanced right-sizing recommendations within Kubernetes environments, a crucial feature for effective cloud cost optimization. This new capability is delivered through Perses dashboards, integrated with the Multicluster Observability Add-on (MCOA) as part of the Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management for Kubernetes (RHACM) 2.17 release. The initiative represents a significant architectural evolution, transitioning from Grafana to Perses as the primary visualization layer for these recommendations. The core purpose of this update is to empower platform engineers and FinOps teams with better tools to identify and address resource inefficiencies. By leveraging these new Perses-powered dashboards, users can pinpoint over-provisioned and under-utilized resources across their multicluster Kubernetes deployments. The latest developer preview in version 2.17 further refines this by moving the right-sizing logic directly into the MCOA, resulting in a cleaner and more modular deployment model. This allows for more streamlined management and easier integration into existing observability stacks. The new implementation covers both namespace-level right-sizing and OpenShift Virtualization right-sizing, providing comprehensive insights into resource consumption. Enabling these Perses dashboards is designed to be straightforward, automatically deploying Prometheus recording rules to managed clusters and configuring metric forwarding through the observability pipeline. It also registers the Perses dashboards with the hub's Perses server, ensuring a seamless experience for users. The system is designed to switch right-sizing to the modern add-on framework without data loss or disruption, cleaning up legacy policy resources automatically while preserving existing customizations. This advancement underscores Red Hat's commitment to providing robust tools for cloud financial management, enabling organizations to optimize their Kubernetes infrastructure costs more effectively.
