Samsung Electronics brings ChatGPT and Codex to employees

Samsung Electronics has taken a major step in its artificial intelligence adoption strategy by making OpenAI's ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex available to a broad segment of its global employee base. This extensive rollout covers all Samsung employees in Korea and all personnel within its Device eXperience (DX) division worldwide, marking one of the largest enterprise deployments for OpenAI to date. The collaboration extends beyond just providing access to these AI models. Samsung intends to leverage ChatGPT and Codex across a diverse range of technical and non-technical functions. This includes areas such as software development, marketing, product development, and manufacturing. The primary goal is to significantly enhance employee productivity and refine problem-solving approaches throughout the company. ChatGPT Enterprise offers robust features tailored for corporate environments, including enhanced data protection, comprehensive user and access management, and stringent security controls. These capabilities ensure that Samsung employees can utilize advanced AI within the company's existing security policies and governance frameworks, addressing common concerns about data privacy and intellectual property when integrating AI tools. Codex, initially developed for software development tasks, is also being deployed to improve coding efficiency through tasks like writing, reviewing, and debugging code. Its utility, however, is expanding to non-technical teams, enabling them to automate workflows and rapidly develop internal tools. This broader application highlights the versatility of these AI models in transforming various aspects of business operations. This expanded partnership builds upon an existing collaboration where Samsung Electronics supplies advanced memory semiconductors for OpenAI's AI infrastructure. The current agreement signifies a deeper integration, moving beyond infrastructure to focus on workforce transformation and company-wide AI adoption. The initiative is part of a broader trend in Korea, with other institutions like Seoul National University also integrating ChatGPT for its community, and Kakao enabling ChatGPT access within its messaging platform.
