Grok Expands Capabilities with New Model, Skills, and Developer Tools

May 2026 has been a period of rapid innovation for xAI, with the company introducing several key enhancements to its Grok AI platform. Among the most notable is the launch of Grok 4.3, which became xAI's flagship cost-efficient model on May 4th. This updated version boasts built-in reasoning, an impressive 1-million-token context window, and native video input, marking a substantial improvement over its predecessor. Grok 4.3 demonstrated strong performance, scoring 53 on the Intelligence Index and gaining over 300 Elo points on GDPval-AA compared to Grok 4.20. Priced at $1.25 per million input tokens, it aims to provide frontier-class AI performance at a competitive rate for developers. Another significant addition is "Grok Skills," officially introduced on May 18th, though first observed on May 21st. This feature allows for persistent custom expertise that carries across different conversations, effectively giving Grok a long-term memory for user workflows. Grok Skills facilitates tasks such as document generation, deck creation, spreadsheet editing, and workflow automation, positioning Grok as a more integrated productivity tool for knowledge workers. It is available to Grok 4.3 users across web, iOS, and Android platforms. For developers, xAI released Grok Build 0.1 in early access on May 14th. On May 19th, Grok was integrated with OpenClaw, an open-source AI agent platform, allowing SuperGrok and X Premium subscribers to authenticate directly and access chat, image, and video generation capabilities.
