European Survey Reveals 40% Weekly Generative AI Tool Usage

Further emphasizing this trend, 69% of individuals who already use generative AI reported an increase in their usage over the last year, indicating a deepening reliance on these advanced tools. However, the survey also identified critical concerns that are hindering even broader adoption. The primary barriers cited by respondents include worries over privacy and data protection, which concerned 39% of citizens, and issues related to the accuracy or potential for incorrect information generated by AI, a concern for 36%. The findings extend beyond mere usage statistics, delving into public sentiment regarding digital policy and AI governance. A substantial 79% of citizens believe that digital policy should be a high or very high priority for the European Union in shaping the future of Europe. Looking ahead, the most important focuses for the next decade, according to respondents, should be protecting privacy and security online (92%) and making digital tools more accessible for everyone (89%). Regarding the regulation of AI, there is a clear preference for a cautious approach, with 80% of citizens favoring careful regulation, in stark contrast to just 15% who would prefer development without restrictions. The survey also touched upon the perceived impact of various technologies, with 55% of Europeans identifying digital health technologies as the area expected to have the most positive impact over the next ten years, surpassing green digital technology and faster internet connectivity.
