Colt DCS Achieves 27% Reduction in Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Colt Data Centre Services (Colt DCS), a global provider of hyperscale and large enterprise data center solutions, has released its fourth annual Sustainability Report, revealing substantial progress in its environmental initiatives. The report, published today, highlights a remarkable 27% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions across Scope 1, 2 (market-based), and 3 categories, benchmarked against its 2019 base year. This significant decrease underscores Colt DCS's dedication to mitigating its environmental footprint in the rapidly expanding data center industry. A key factor in this achievement is the company's commitment to renewable energy. In the past year, Colt DCS successfully sourced 100% renewable electricity for its Scope 2 emissions, primarily through renewable energy certificates. This contributed to an impressive 90% renewable share of its total energy consumption across all three scopes. These efforts are particularly crucial as the demand for data center capacity, driven by AI and cloud services, continues to surge, placing increasing pressure on energy grids and sustainability targets. The report also details the advancements in Colt DCS's Global Reference Design (GRD), which plays a pivotal role in embedding sustainability from the ground up. This revised GRD ensures that new architectural developments incorporate lower embodied carbon materials and advanced cooling technologies. Specifically, the integration of near-zero wastewater cooling systems is a testament to their innovative approach to resource efficiency. By focusing on these design principles, Colt DCS aims to ensure that efficiency gains are baked into the very foundation of its data centers, supporting the growing demand for sustainable infrastructure. Colt DCS operates a global portfolio of 15 operational data centers, with an additional 12 sites currently under development across nine cities in the UK, Europe, and the APAC region. The company emphasizes that these sustainability efforts are not just about compliance but also about enabling its customers, particularly hyperscalers and large enterprises, to plan for business growth while maintaining peace of mind regarding their environmental impact. The ongoing advancements in energy-efficient systems and the strategic use of renewable energy sources position Colt DCS as a leader in fostering a greener cloud computing ecosystem.
