Oracle Database@AWS Brings OCI Exadata Infrastructure Directly Inside AWS Environments

Oracle and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have announced a strategic partnership to launch Oracle Database@AWS, deploying dedicated Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) hardware directly within AWS data centers. The service delivers fully managed access to Oracle Autonomous Database and Oracle Exadata Database Service, running on dedicated OCI Exadata infrastructure hosted in AWS availability zones. Customers gain native integration with AWS services, zero-ETL data connections into AWS analytics tools, unified billing through AWS Marketplace, and joint support agreements between both vendors. This collaboration eliminates one of the most persistent operational dilemmas facing enterprise DevOps and database teams: the architectural wall between mission-critical Oracle transactional workloads and AWS-native application stacks. Historically, running enterprise Oracle databases alongside AWS workloads meant choosing between limited RDS feature sets or high-latency, cost-prohibitive cross-cloud network interconnects. By embedding OCI Exadata racks within AWS facilities, organizations achieve sub-millisecond network latency between their relational databases and compute services like Amazon EC2, Amazon ECS, or Amazon Bedrock AI workflows without refactoring proprietary PL/SQL code or losing Real Application Clusters (RAC) support. The AWS partnership completes Oracle's multicloud triumvirate alongside similar co-location agreements with Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud. The industry has shifted away from the walled-garden cloud model toward pragmatic multicloud co-location, where hyperscalers acknowledge that core systems of record rarely migrate to proprietary cloud engines easily. By physically placing OCI instances inside competitor data centers, Oracle preserves its database footprint while hyperscalers retain their compute, data lake, and generative AI consumption layers. For practitioners, Oracle Database@AWS enables automation via familiar infrastructure-as-code tooling, including AWS CloudFormation and the AWS Command Line Interface. Platform engineers can provision Exadata clusters without handling physical infrastructure, while finance teams can utilize existing AWS commitments and Oracle Support Rewards via Bring Your Own License (BYOL) constructs. DevOps teams should audit latency-critical data pipelines and evaluate retiring bespoke cross-cloud VPN tunnels or DirectConnect paths in favor of native intra-datacenter connectivity. However, teams must still carefully plan for governance and IAM alignment across AWS and OCI operational boundaries.
