This new feature operates as a native AI experience within a PowerPoint sidebar, allowing users to interact with ChatGPT without leaving their presentation environment. The primary goal of this add-in is to empower users to create, edit, comprehend, and polish their presentations more efficiently, all while preserving the editable structure of their slides. The functionality of ChatGPT for PowerPoint extends to a variety of presentation-related tasks. Users can generate a first draft of a presentation by providing source material such as notes, documents, or spreadsheets. It also facilitates the addition or revision of slides within an existing deck, helps in answering questions about a presentation's narrative and structure, and enables users to refine their decks for particular audiences, whether executive, customer, or internal. Installation is straightforward, with the add-in available through the Microsoft Marketplace. Users can find it by navigating to the "Add-ins" section under the "Home" tab in PowerPoint and searching for "ChatGPT." Once added, users sign in with their ChatGPT account. For organizations with restricted access to the Microsoft Store, a Microsoft 365 administrator can deploy the add-in internally using a manifest XML file. OpenAI cautions users that ChatGPT, like any AI, can make mistakes, including during content editing or deletion, and advises reviewing all outputs before sharing or relying on them.
