Parallel Works Secures DoD Contract for Hybrid Multi-Cloud HPC Management
Parallel Works, a prominent provider of hybrid multi-cloud computing solutions, has announced a major contract win with the Department of Defense's High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP). This partnership is set to revolutionize how DoD scientists, engineers, and acquisition engineering professionals interact with their computational resources.
The core of the contract involves the deployment of the Parallel Works Activate High Security Platform (HSP). This platform will serve as a crucial control plane, seamlessly connecting Defense Supercomputing Resource Centers (DSRCs) with secure commercial cloud infrastructure. The primary goal is to offer a single, unified interface that simplifies access to a wide array of on-premises and cloud-based computational power, enabling users to tackle complex technical challenges more efficiently.
The initiative directly addresses the evolving demands of "AI-driven warfare and the ramp to digital modernization," as highlighted by Keith Obenschain, CTO of HPCMP. He emphasized the urgent need for controlled unclassified information (CUI) and ITAR-capable cloud workflows, which legacy infrastructures struggle to provide. Activate HSP is designed to meet these stringent security requirements, having achieved the highest non-classified DoD security level, Impact Level 5 (IL5). It stands as one of only three SaaS/PaaS software programs approved for export-controlled workload environments.
Benefits for the thousands of DoD users will include on-demand access to elastic compute resources, significantly reducing queue delays and enabling rapid deployment of mission-critical workloads—shrinking operational times from days to mere hours. The platform also provides a secure sandbox for testing and deploying AI and code-assist tools for model development, allowing defense researchers to experiment with next-generation cloud architectures before full integration into DSRCs. This comprehensive hybrid multi-cloud offering, encompassing AWS, Azure, Google, and Oracle environments, is poised to enhance operational continuity and accelerate mission outcomes with unparalleled speed and security.
