AWS Unveils Interconnect for Multi-Cloud Connectivity with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

AWS has recently announced the public preview of AWS Interconnect, a significant development aimed at streamlining multi-cloud connectivity, initially focusing on integration with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). This new service is a direct response to the increasing adoption of multi-cloud strategies by enterprises, which often grapple with the inherent complexities of interconnecting workloads across various cloud service providers (CSPs). Historically, organizations looking to establish connections between different cloud environments, such as AWS and OCI, had to resort to a 'do-it-yourself' approach. This often involved constructing and maintaining intricate global networks, leading to substantial operational overhead, increased costs, and potential security vulnerabilities. AWS Interconnect seeks to alleviate these challenges by offering a purpose-built solution that simplifies the provisioning of resilient and scalable private connections between clouds. The introduction of AWS Interconnect signifies a shift in how cloud providers are approaching multi-cloud networking. It represents the first product of its kind designed to facilitate direct, managed connectivity between different cloud ecosystems. Oracle, a key partner in this initiative, has adopted the open specification that powers AWS Interconnect, allowing for a consistent and simplified experience for customers. This collaboration enables businesses to run applications and transfer data seamlessly between OCI and AWS, leveraging the strengths of both platforms. For instance, customers can utilize Oracle's robust database solutions, including Oracle RAC and AI Vector Search, within OCI while still benefiting from AWS's extensive compute portfolio and services. This enhanced interoperability supports use cases such as disaster recovery, data migration, and distributing applications across clouds to meet specific performance or regulatory requirements. AWS Interconnect is currently available in preview with OCI in the us-east-1 (N. Virginia) AWS Region, with plans for broader availability and integration with other cloud providers like Google Cloud (already Generally Available) and Microsoft Azure (coming later in 2026). This strategic move by AWS underscores the importance of simplifying multi-cloud operations and providing customers with greater choice and flexibility in their cloud architectures.
