Anthropic Launches Claude Tag in Slack, Expanding Enterprise AI Capabilities
Anthropic has officially launched Claude Tag, an advanced artificial intelligence agent designed to operate directly within Salesforce's Slack application. This new tool is positioned to act as a virtual colleague, working alongside human employees in group chat environments.
Claude Tag's core functionality allows it to be summoned into any Slack thread by simply typing "@Claude." Once engaged, the AI agent can read and comprehend ongoing conversations, autonomously break down complex tasks into manageable steps, and proactively highlight important information or updates relevant to the team's work without explicit prompting.
A key differentiator for Claude Tag is its ability to maintain a persistent context layer and memory. This feature enables the AI to learn and retain information about various projects and ongoing discussions, providing a deeper understanding than previous iterations. If granted permission, Claude Tag can even access and search through other Slack channels within an organization to gather necessary context, facilitating more comprehensive assistance.
This enhanced contextual awareness allows for a more fluid and collaborative workflow. Team members can hand off partially completed tasks to others, including Claude Tag, who can then pick up where they left off, leveraging the shared understanding. Administrators have granular control over the data and tools Claude Tag can access in each channel, ensuring data governance and security.
The introduction of Claude Tag represents a significant move by Anthropic to strengthen its position in the competitive enterprise AI market. The company aims to provide businesses with more stable and predictable revenue streams, especially as it approaches a potential initial public offering later this year. Rob Seaman, General Manager of Slack, highlighted this shift by stating that Claude Tag makes "AI multiplayer," fostering open collaboration rather than private interactions. Cat Wu, Anthropic's head of product for Claude Code, emphasized the power of being able to tag the AI just like a human coworker, illustrating its practical utility by describing how her personal Claude Tag, with Gmail access, flags important emails and posts them to Slack.
