AWS Launches First Local Zone in Hanoi, Vietnam for Low-Latency Cloud Services

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has officially launched its inaugural Local Zone in Hanoi, Vietnam, marking a significant expansion of its global cloud footprint and commitment to the Southeast Asian market. This strategic deployment aims to bring AWS infrastructure and services closer to customers and end-users within the metropolitan area, addressing critical needs for low-latency applications and data residency. The Hanoi Local Zone is designed to provide single-digit millisecond latency, a performance benchmark essential for a variety of latency-sensitive workloads. This includes high-frequency trading in financial services, real-time multiplayer experiences in gaming, and live streaming for media and entertainment companies. By reducing the physical distance between compute resources and end-users, AWS empowers businesses to deliver superior performance and responsiveness for their applications. Beyond performance, a key benefit of the new Local Zone is its ability to help organizations comply with local data residency requirements. Customers can now store and process data within Vietnam, utilizing services like Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) and Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS) Local Snapshots. This capability is particularly important for industries with strict regulatory mandates regarding data location. The integration of the Hanoi Local Zone into the broader AWS ecosystem is seamless. Organizations can continue to use the same AWS APIs, tools, and management consoles they employ for workloads running in AWS Regions, ensuring a consistent operational experience. The Local Zone supports a comprehensive suite of core AWS services, including various Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instance types (C7i, M7i, R7i), Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS), Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS), Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC), AWS Direct Connect, and Application Load Balancer. This initiative underscores AWS's ongoing investment in Vietnam's rapidly growing digital economy. Jeff Johnson, Managing Director for ASEAN at AWS, emphasized that the Local Zone provides world-class compute and storage capabilities closer to Vietnamese customers, enabling them to innovate, scale, and compete effectively.
