Samsung and KDDI Successfully Complete AI-Powered Network Optimization Trial on Commercial 5G Standalone Network in Japan

Samsung Electronics and Japanese telecommunications giant KDDI have announced the successful completion of a joint trial focused on AI-powered network optimization. The trial implemented Samsung's innovative RAN Speed Optimizer (RSO) on KDDI's live commercial 5G Standalone (SA) network across various locations in and around Tokyo. This collaborative effort, initiated in late 2025 and spanning several months, aimed to showcase the tangible benefits of integrating advanced AI solutions into daily network operations. The core of the trial revolved around Samsung's RSO, an AI-driven solution designed to enhance radio access network (RAN) performance. The RSO is a key component of the Samsung CognitiV Network Operations Suite (NOS), which comprises a suite of AI-powered network automation tools, intelligent applications, and AI agents. Unlike traditional optimization methods that apply uniform parameter settings across multiple cells, Samsung's RSO employs a sophisticated AI-based prediction model. This model meticulously analyzes site environment data to generate and recommend highly optimized parameters tailored to each individual cell. The results of the trial were notably impressive. During peak hours, the RSO delivered an average increase of 31% in 5G downlink throughput across the entire trial area. In densely populated urban environments, these gains were even more pronounced, reaching a maximum increase of 52%. Beyond these substantial performance improvements, the trial underscored the potential of AI-based solutions to enable more precise and adaptive network optimization within commercial settings. For network operators like KDDI, the successful deployment of such AI solutions translates into significant operational advantages. The RSO's ability to automatically adjust to changing network conditions across diverse scenarios reduces the need for manual intervention, thereby improving operational efficiency and lowering costs. For end-users, this technological advancement promises a superior mobile experience, characterized by faster and more reliable connections for activities such such as streaming, browsing, and making calls.
